Summer BODY Care TIPS
You should change your skincare routine in the summer to help protect skin from the adverse effects of heat and humidity. Warm temperatures and sun exposure can cause the skin to thin and feel more sensitive. If you have any concerns or suffer from oily skin, blemishes might appear more during the summer months.
1. WEAR BREATHABLE FABRICS
Cotton and lighter fabrics are a must to tackle the heat. Tight clothes can cause irritation and make sweaty parts of the body itch more. Prolonged conditions lead to rashes and sometimes even serious skin infections.
2. STAY HYDRATED
Our bodies are 60% water, so it’s important to stay properly hydrated. Drinking enough water and eating foods with a high water content helps avoid dehydration, which can make skin look dull and feel tight.
3. COOL SHORT SHOWERS
What’s better than a cool shower after workouts, beach days, and plain old summer sweat? Cool water help to soothe itchy, sunburnt skin, and to tighten the pores and refresh your skin without stripping away its natural oils.
Keep showers short, around four to five minutes. Over-showering, or showering in water that is too hot, can lead to over-drying your skin, leading to inflammation and even summertime eczema.
4. GO LIGHTWEIGHT FOR YOUR BODY CARE ROUTINE
Rich, creamy moisturisers may feel uncomfortable on the skin during the summer months. Try something with a lighter texture to leave skin feeling soft and refreshed: body mists, lotions, gels, serums etc.
5. INVEST IN A VITAMIN C SERUM
Vitamin C is great year-round, but all the more important in the summer. Vitamin C helps prevent hyperpigmentation, improve the appearance of fine lines, and can help with collagen production. Layer a few drops on your skin between cleansing and moisturizer.
6. EXFOLIATE
- It will increase collagen production which results in younger-looking skin.
- will improve the effectiveness of topical skin treatments, allowing them to penetrate deeper.
- will help prevent clogged pores, decreasing the risk of breakouts.
- will reduce skin discoloration, fine lines, and wrinkles.
7. SPF, SPF, SPF!
Wear sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher on all exposed skin. Don't forget about hands, feet, ears, and lips. NB: sunscreen needs to be reapplied every couple of hours. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you to reapply.
Have a happy summer!
